New Year, New Goals

Hello friends! My name is Kelli Beggs and I am a lover of equines, especially of the long-ear variety. I decided to try blogging this year, hopefully as another tool to educate and advocate for the misunderstood.

I have lived in SE Kansas my entire life and in the last several years, I added donkeys to our farm. What started as a small hobby with one donkey has quickly grown into a passion. My donkey needed a friend, and that friend came with a friend who needed a friend… anyway you see where that went.

I quickly realized how very smart they are and started to have fun training my own. I fell in love with driving and showing, meeting all kinds of wonderful new friends. I began breeding minis for show & performance.

Soon I decided I would like a big donkey to ride as they are so much safer than horses. I began my search and was appalled to see so many big donkeys with terrible conformation. This spurred me to begin building a herd of mammoths to breed my own in an attempt to improve the breed. I selected stock with good conformation & disposition. I’m expecting my first crop of foals this spring.

Overall, I have seen a lot of donkeys abandoned in pastures, neglected, overgrown hooves, and my ultimate goal is to be a resource to help people better understand and care for these amazing creatures. Please join me this year as I take you on my daily donkey adventures.

I plan to include training & care tips, fun stories, document breeding & births and showcase my babies. If you have a question or an idea you’d like more information about, please let me know. This is a work in progress, so please bear with me if I ramble on.

Stay tuned for more!
